The class is designed to teach students about web applications, digital citizenship, personal network building, and social media responsibility and practice. This blog will be used to share with our readers the tools, websites, and web resources that students are learning about. We hope that you find a tool that you can utilize.

There are so many web applications available on the Internet that students may not even know exist. In this course, students will explore the Internet and take advantage of all that it has to offer. Students will learn that Google is more than just a search engine. They will discover various web applications that will help make their time on the Internet more effective and efficient. The web applications that will be explored include, but are not limited to: sharing buttons, blogs, avatars, RSS, social bookmarking, photo sharing/editing, audio and video, presentation, drawing, collaboration tools, and screencasts. Internet marketing and shopping sites will also be explored. Students will explore applications of which they can utilize to enhance both their learning and social experiences. Students will learn and practice digital literacy and responsibility, collaborate, share, create, socialize, and organize content, while demonstrating internet safety. Upon leaving this course students will be informed digital learner/citizen!

Students will discover the world of social media by exploring the Internet.  Students will utilize various web tools that will enhance their Internet experience.  Students will demonstrate how to use online resources effectively and appropriately.  Students will gain the skills necessary to make their time on the Internet more effective and efficient.This course is designed to help students understand and effectively use a variety of emerging social technologies including blogs, RSS, wikis, social bookmarking tools, photo sharing tools, mapping tools, audio and video podcasts, and screencasts. Students will be exploring various web tool applications of which they can utilize to enhance their learning and social experiences. Students will be learning and practicing digital literacy and responsibility, collaborating, creating, socializing, and organizing content, while practicing internet safety. There are a wide variety of web based application tools available; tools which enable the student to do everything from collaborating on documents, editing photos, creating online slide shows, and sharing bookmarks. It is critical that students are keeping up with the speed of innovation and maintaining a familiarity with the most recent web tools and capabilities. The Internet has changed how information is created.  Today, Internet users are not only the audience, but also the authors of content found on the Internet. This course is designed to help students understand and effectively use a variety of web based application technologies. 
Social media consists of web applications that allow user participation and user-generated content. They include social networking sites including MySpace, Twitter or Facebook and other sites that are centered on user interaction. Social media can take many different forms, including Internet forums, blogs, social networking, wikis, podcasts, and social bookmarking.  Through social media technologies, students can create blogs, share documents, create presentations, edit and share pictures and video, send email and instant messages, participate in video conferencing as well as share music, to name only a few. 
Students enrolled in this course will communicate, compose, collaborate, create and contribute to Internet websites by utilizing the tools available online.  Students will build their own Personal Learning Network.
